Finishing
A to Z This is a 2 week course that begins with basic hand applied and sprayed finishing techniques. The first week covers surface preparation, stain control, grain filling, color layering (glazes), top coating of all kinds, French polishing, distressed milk paint finish, gold leafing, and polishing out a finish. Work is done on flat practice panels. Students are encouraged to bring in their own wood samples.
Moving on to spraying grain filler, dyes, shellac, water based coatings, solvent based coatings, pigmented lacquers, and of course, proper gunning techniques and cleaning the gun. Work is done on flat panels and cabinet doors. No Prior Requirements |
Restoration
& Repair

These are the questions that come about with a typical appraisal at the beginning of every restoration and/or conservation project. The class covers basic stripping and refinishing, splices, veneer replacement, regluing of all types, structural rebuilding, and, of course, coloring repairs. Requirements:
